The Thursday, December 8, 2005 edition of San Jose State University’s Spartan Daily was the last issue of the Fall 2005 semester. It was also my first issue as a production editor, laying out the news pages, a job that I will hold during the Spring 2006 semester.
I have had mixed responses about my decision to spend a semester doing graphic design. Some have encouraged my choice, viewing it as adding to my skill set in a time when jobs for photography are continually shrinking. Others question why I am not solely sticking to photography if that is my focus and passion.
I tend to agree with the former, as I am always trying to add to my skills in areas that may be relevant to journalism, be it web design, video, blogging/writing, graphic design, or photography.
